Week 6 – FEAR

When we started this course Markj reminded me that I needed to be Honest with myself, I needed to Open minded and I needed to be Willing to commit to the process. Well for the last five weeks I have been having a challenge with the How? within my Definite Major Purpose (DMP) which resulted in the fact that my DMP is not yet singed off.

As part of my DMP I state: “I love the freedom I create for me and family by attracting an addition $20 000.00 per month from or before the 02-28-2019.” The question I was asked by my awesome guide was to think about the How? and that is where I was struck with FEAR.

The how that I have received in my thoughts is so big that it scares me big time.

While studying Lesson 3 of the Master Key system by Charles Haanel a few weeks ago the following paragraphs caught my attention every time;

14. Non-resistant thought expands the Solar Plexus; resistant thought contracts it. Pleasant thought expands it; unpleasant thought contracts it. Thoughts of courage, power, confidence and hope all produce a corresponding state, but the one arch enemy of the Solar Plexus which must be absolutely destroyed before there is any possibility of letting any light shine is FEAR. This enemy must be completely destroyed; he must be eliminated; he must be expelled forever; he is the cloud which hides the sun; which causes a perpetual gloom.

15. It is this personal devil which makes men fear the past, the present and the future; fear themselves, their friends and their enemies; fear everything and everybody. When fear is effectually and completely destroyed, your light will shine, the clouds will disperse and you will have found the source of power, energy and life.”

This also took me back to a part that I read in The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino before I started with this amazing course at the end of September 2016:

He placed the small cedar chest at the foot of his cot and proceeded to unroll the leather strapping. The cover opened easily and he gazed down at the leather scrolls. Finally he reached inside and touched the leather. It gave under his fingers as if it were alive and he hurriedly withdrew his hand. He arose and stepped towards the latticed window through which sounds poured from the noisy market place nearly half a mile distant. FEAR and DOUBT returned again as looked in the direction of the muffled voices and he felt his confidence waning.

He closed his eyes, leaned his head against the wall, and cried aloud, “How foolish I am to dream that I, a mere camel boy, will one day be acclaimed as the greatest salesman in the world when I have not even the courage to ride through the stalls of the hawkers in the street. Today mine eyes have witnessed hundreds of salesman, all far better equipped for their profession than I. All had boldness, enthusiasm, and persistence. All seemed equipped to survive in the jungle of the market. How stupid and presumptuous to think I can compete with and surpass them. Pathros, my Pathros, I FEAR that I will fail you again.”

He threw himself on his cot and weary from his travels he sobbed until he slept. When he awoke it was morning. Even before he opened his eyes he heard the chirp. Then he sat up and stared in disbelief at the sparrow perched on the open cover of the chest containing the scrolls. He ran to the window. Outside, thousands of sparrows clustered in the fig trees and sycamores, each welcoming the day with song. As he watched, some landed on the window ledge but quickly flew away when Hafid moved even slightly. Then he turned and looked at the chest again. His feathered visitor cocked its head and stared back at the youth. Hafid walked slowly to the chest, his hand extended. The bird leaped into his palm.

Thousands of your kind are outside and AFRAID. But you had the courage to come through the window.”

The bird pecked sharply at Hafid’s skin and the youth carried him toward the table where his knapsack contained bread and cheese. He broke off chunks and placed them beside his small friend who began to eat. A THOUGHT came to Hafid and he returned to the window. He rubbed his hand against the opening in the lattice. They were so small that it seemed almost IMPOSSIBLE for the sparrow to have entered. Then he remembered the voice of Pathros and he repeated the words aloud, “Failure will never overtake you if your determination to succeed is strong enough.”

He returned to the chest and reached inside. One leather scroll was more worn than the rest. He removed it from the box and gently unrolled it. The FEAR he had known was gone. Then he looked toward the sparrow. He to was gone. Only crumbs of bread and cheese remained as evidence of his visit from the little bird with courage. He glanced down at the scroll. Its heading read The Scroll Marked I. He began to read …….”

So what is the significance of these two portions you may ask?

It is important to eliminate the “personal devil” called “FEAR” at the start of my Hero’s Journey towards my new life. Similar to Hafid’s feathered visitor which eliminated FEAR when he entered through the window with courage, which seemed impossible, while thousands of his kind remained outside and afraid as well as when Hafid realised that “Failure will never overtake you if your determination to succeed is strong enough.”

What happened to Hafid because of this seemingly small and insignificant experience with his small feathered visitor? His fear was eliminated and he began his journey to become the greatest salesman in the world.

And what will be the result for me when I follow the example of Hafid? The answer is found in paragraph 16 for Lesson 3.

16. When you find that you are really one with the Infinite power, and when you can consciously realize this power by a practical demonstration of your ability to overcome any adverse condition by the power of your thought, you will have nothing to fear; fear will have been destroyed and you will have come into possession of your birthright.”

The Impossible becomes I’m possible.

This is a great post Tobie. You are at a crucial moment in your path, you are the observer and you notice fear. You overcome fear by taking action, just do not let it stop you. It tries to keep you in your comfort zone, to protect you. Just thank fear for that, but then let it go…

Great post! Since FEAR has held us back from becoming our true selves, it HAS TO GO – simple!
