Week 17 HJ – What am I pretending not to know?

What an amazing concept! At the end of Sunday’s webinar Markj ask us to focus and ask ourselves this question. He also introduced us to an amazing woman, Aimee Mullins. She took something that most people will classify as being disability and created a super-ability to the benefit of humanity as a whole.

This got me thinking and I became very quite and withdrew to my most inner thoughts this week and this thought dominated my silence.

‘What is my super-ability that I am not pretending to know?’

The more I spend time in silence the more these thoughts resurfaces:

Life is an exciting adventure and from Scroll IV of The Greatest Salesman in the World of Og Mandino:

“all my problems, discouragements, and heartaches are, in truth, great opportunities in disguise. I will no longer be fooled by the garments they wear for mine eyes are open.”

In my week 15 post I used the biblical story of Numbers 14 regarding Moses ‘that decided to send 12 men to go and spy out this promised land and after 40 days 10 of them returned with the following opinion. They said, “There are giants in the land, and we’ll never defeat them.”

Well this week I received this message from Pastor Joseph Prince:

See Your Giants As Bread

“..do not…fear the people [giants] of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.” Numbers 14:9

The 12 men whom Moses sent out to spy on the promised land all saw the same thing. They all saw the same big houses, the same huge grapes and yes, the same giants standing in their way! But unlike the others, Joshua and Caleb saw the giants as bread. The rest saw the giants as insurmountable, impossible obstacles. As a result, Joshua and Caleb were the only ones of their generation to enter the promised land.”
What struck me the most of this metaphor was to look at my ‘giants as bread’. According to the great writer Emmot Fox in his wonderful pamphlet The Lord’s Prayer, An Interpretation he interpret the word bread to mean
‘Bread, that is to say, means not only merely food in general, but all things that man requires for a healthy, happy, free and harmonious life.’
Wow to see my giants, that includes all my problems, discouragements, heartaches and so called disabilities, as my daily bread, all things that I requires for a healthy, happy, free and harmonious life.
To look at my giants as my super-abilities.
That’s living my life as a exciting adventure with imagination.

Toby, I enjoyed your blog and how you compared scripture to what you’ve learned from the week. Each day our bread is God’s word. His word gives us strength, power, directions and our road map. God wants to take care of us-if we just let go of things and let Him do His mighty work. Have a great weekend and a super week..
